BELFORD ANNUAL VILLAGE SHOW 2025
The 107th Annual Belford Village Show was held on Saturday 27th September, with the focus of the Show being on Horticultural Produce as well as a wide range of Arts & Crafts, including handicrafts, baking, art work, model making, photography, flowers and flower arranging, and even growing potatoes in a bucket. Close to 500 people attended the Show to admire the bumper crop of nearly 1000 entries that were exhibited on the day, by 110 entrants from the Village and further afield. All the exhibits were judged, in their numerous classes, by invited luminaries in their various fields, who decided the prize winners and ‘Best in Section’. The high quality of the skills and crafts on display made sure their jobs were not made easy.
The Show organisers were especially pleased to once again work in partnership with Belford Primary School, whose pupils produced a wonderful range of work and even grew their own vegetables. Outreach into the Community was a recurring theme to encourage the growers and artisans of tomorrow and draw the Village together on this special day. Over the history of the Show it has adapted and changed to remain relevant to the present day, and the local and extended community which it serves.
Local business outlets provided food and drink, and local artisan’s handicrafts and artwork were displayed and on sale, as well as displays of spinning yarn and willow weaving and exhibition all about our friends, the bees. The precursor to the whole Show was, as in previous years, the renowned Duck Race which took place in the centre of the village and was supported and organised by Carruthers Leisure.
Once again the Dog Show proved very popular with a significant number of entries competing in numerous classes. This year, for the first time, there was also a ‘Fun Run’, of either 4 or 9 miles, for those near 30 hardy souls keen to maintain their fitness levels, whilst enjoying to surrounding countryside.
Prize winners were awarded their trophies, at the Closing Ceremony, by the Show Committee President, William McLaren, who in his closing address thanked everyone who had exhibited their work to make the Show so successful, and one of the biggest and best in recent years. He also expressed his gratitude to the Committee and the many volunteers who on the day had all worked so hard to ensure everyone who attended the Show had a memorable day, and especially to Committee Chair, Janet West, who will be standing down after 10 years in the role. Janet said “we are fortunate that we have a fantastic group of volunteers that help with the setting up and taking down of the Show which is no small effort. We are always grateful to anyone offering to become involved, at whatever level, to support the Show”.
The final act was for William to award The President’s Trophy for his choice of ‘Best In Show’ to Christine Shield.
And the weather stayed fine.
